A quick 80's flashback

I'm at "work" right now (its a temp job and I'm not getting paid to do much, so I hestitate to call it work) so this will be quick..

I've been thinking about tulip rings lately. Does anyone remember those? You know, from the 80s and early 90s? The hot thing was to have two or three and wear them on the same finger...? I've been searching the internet for them and I can't find them.

Does anyone even know what I'm talking about?

Edited 02.02.08: You can find anything on ebay.

Thats what I'm remembering. I used to have an amethyst one, just like that purple one there.

Head Injuries

Yes, I hit my head pretty hard the other day, carelessly sacrificing my body to save a basketball from going out of bounds. Fortunately, I saved the ball and my team won. Worth it? No. Don't ever, ever risk serious injury for a game. I'm doing fine, though my noggin is a little sore. Peace out!

Emo Concussions in South Carolina

Take the Emo Quiz at!
Make Your Own Quiz

I found this quiz on Sonya's website. I found it funny. Especially funny because it asked my age. I think I'm officially too old to be Emo anyway.

William might have a concussion. Thats always exciting right? He was playing basketball with the boys at church this morning and he took a dive for the ball and slammed his head into a room divider. The metal part of it. He has normal pupil response, but he's been having head aches and other random symptoms throughout the day. We were going to go to Disney World this week-end and decided not to. I think this is a sign that we should have gone.

So, how 'bout that South Carolina primary? My man Barak took the cake!!!! CHECK IT OUT! (Please note how many MORE people participated in the Democratic primary than the Republican. Its just an interesting side note.)

Here's the thing...

I'm not trying to bash on Hilary. HONESTLY. Being a semi-socialist myself, there are several policy issues that she and I agree on. However, she has one glaring campaign issue that I just can't get over. And when people make fun of it, its funny to me. William forwarded me this email which I thought was really funny. I probably shouldn't be posting it here, but I don't really endorse these types of inflammatory emails. But, funny is funny.

Quarterback for the Packers...
In a news conference Deanna Favre announced she will be the starting QB for the Packers this coming Sunday. Deanna asserts that she is qualified to be starting QB because she has spent the past 16 years married to Brett while he played QB for the Packers. During this period of time she became familiar with the definition of a corner blitz, and is now completely comfortable with other terminology of the Packers offense. A survey of Packers fans shows that 50% of those polled supported the move.

Does this sound idiotic and unbelievable to you?

Well, Hillary Clinton makes the same claims as to why she is qualified to be President and 50% of democrats polled agreed. She has never run a City, County, or State. When told Hillary Clinton has experience because she has 8 years in the White House, Dick Morris stated "so has the Pastry Chef".

2008 Presidential Candidate Matching Quiz
So I took the presidential candidate quiz, too. It's fun to see how your views line up with the views of those competing to rule the free world. What's really funny about the results is that I am a registered Republican.

Dramatic Squirrel

Believe it or not, this mere five seconds of video is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Of course, the music really adds a whole other dimension. Enjoy, over and over and over and over again. I have.

No big surprise here...

I don't think a quiz like this should be the deciding factor in a vote, but its interesting nonetheless. I wasn't surprised at my results, anyway...

82% Barack Obama
81% John Edwards
78% Hillary Clinton
76% Chris Dodd

Another chart.

I made another chart thing.

William has been saving up to get a flat screen TV. And I had so much fun making the thing for the cruise that I made another one for this.

This is all evidence of this thing I already know about myself. I really like to have a project to work on. It was fun when I was building the excel spreadsheet for the cruise chart, and then when it was done I was a little bit sad. So I decided to do another one (the TV), but then since I already had a template for it, it went much more quickly. Alas, now I'm without a project. Does anyone need a spreadsheet?

Exciting New Year

Hello, All! This semester I will finish my course work and hopefully pass off French as my second language. In the PhD program I am in at FSU, one must show a reading proficiency in two languages. I rocked the Spanish test at the end of last semester . . . BOOYAH! This semester promises to be busy. I am only teaching one class again because I am still mentoring new graduate instructors, but I am also working as an apprentice in an upper division literature course that is in my area of interest. It's awesome, I get to work with a well seasoned professor and learn how better to teach lit. classes. The lit. class I taught last semester was rough---harder than I thought it would be. The class that I am teaching is one that I got to design from the bottom up all by myself: Writing About Pop Cultural Satire in The Simpsons. Yeah, that's right, it's AWESOME! So anyway, if all goes according to plan, I will take my prelims in the Fall and start writing my dissertation after that. I already have a good idea and a committee. It's amazing how quickly things are starting to come together. Despite Leah Marie having a work deficit (ah, political correctness), life is pretty good. I did gain some weight over the holidays (five pounds), but I lost four and a half this week, so I am back on track---and still the skinniest I have ever been in my adult life. It's a long way from 400 pounds, and I love that. Anyway, I thought I would post a brief update as I begin a new year. Happy New Year to all, and to all a good . . . year?

The Cruise Funds Tracker

I got this idea from my friend Megan. She posted one on her blog shaped like a house because she's saving money for a house down payment. Thats way more responsible than mine. I've been saving money to go on a cruise for awhile, and I think this is such a fun way to keep track of how thats going (which has been pretty slow during my period of unemployment). And how good is my boat drawing?

Round 2...

I'm not really going to keep track of all the "rounds". Just the interesting ones.

Anyways, Round 2 in New Hampshire went to McCain and Clinton. I don't so much have a reaction to McCain, and really my only reaction to Clinton is that, of course, I wish it were Obama. I do think its funny that she after the votes were in there was all the talk about her comeback. In fact, their votes were so close that Clinton and Obama won the SAME NUMBER OF DELEGATES from New Hampshire. So, Obama is technically still ahead. Is that really a comeback?

This was pretty funny (at least, you'll certainly think its funny if you watched the debate Saturday night):

And Round 1 goes to....

Barak Obama!!!

And Mike Huckabee?

Barak I was expecting and hoping for, of course. But I'm kinda surprised about Huckabee. I sincerely believe that man is a bit crazy in the head.

Happy New Year!

Yay for 2008!

This being my first post of the new year, I suppose I'm supposed to have some resolutions.

Here it is:

I'm going to learn Spanish and brush up on my French and Latin.

Yep, thats right. I'm aiming high this year. Me gusta.

Oh, and I've decided that I'm going to starting using Labels on my posts. Look out for that. Its going to be big fun.

This year's New Year's Eve celebrations were quite fun. We made some Chinese food, as eating Chinese food is the tradition in my family for the holiday. We also had an Angel marathon. I don't even know how many episodes we watched. I just know I was really glad to get through season 4 and the end of the Conner story line. Boy, I'm glad thats over.
