So, we got a pretty good snow storm this past week. And by pretty good, I mean that we got somewhere between 6 to 8 inches. It wasn’t a ton, but enough to build a really decent snowman. Evidence:
The Things had so much fun playing in the snow. I could hear all of the laughter and squeals of delight from bedroom. I actually lamented not feeling well enough to go play with them. Which is sad, but before you feel too sorry for me, you should know this is the view from by bedroom window:
My life could be worse.
Anyway, the snow was all so much fun, until the power went out. Well technically, the snow continued to be fun for a couple of hours after the power went out. It stopped being fun when the power stayed out. And when we went to bed that night and it was 60 degrees in our house. And then we woke up in the morning and it was 54. And all I could think was that it’d only snowed like 6 inches and we must have the weakest power lines EVER.
Truth be told, it wasn’t so bad while we were sleeping. We were all bundled up and snuggled under layers of blankets. The Things actually slept great. But when I called the power company in the morning, eager to find out when the power would be back on, I was given an ETA of 6pm to midnight. We kind of lost our minds a little bit, and packed up and went to a hotel. The thought of being in a cold house all day, and possibly putting the Things to bed in the coldness again, was just too much. And seriously? Like being bedridden doesn’t suck enough for me, all of my devices (laptop, kindle, etc.) had run out of power. So, the hotel seemed like the right thing to do because I could plug stuff in there.
Of course, we got settled into the hotel and shortly thereafter got a call from the power company that the power was back on. WHATEVER. Good news is we still had a great time. Husband took the Things off to do some fun stuff, then they came back and we spent a fair amount of time snuggling in the hotel bed and watching TV. It was kind of a great day. So, thanks for the really bad guessing at the ETA, power company.
And because I never want to forget it, I’m including this facebook status, that I posted while in the hotel that night:
Chillin' in the hotel room, we're watching Prisoner of Azkaban, when Thing 2 stands up, holds out his arm like he's extending his wand, and shouts "Espeto Pratomom!"
It was pretty much the best thing I've ever seen.

Maybe he'll get a letter on his 11th birthday.
ReplyDeleteOne can only hope!!
DeleteI was just thinking about going to a hotel for a night just because. Didn't even have a power outage as an excuse--I was just deeply sick of the teal faux granite countertop in my bathroom and wanted to be somewhere where everything works the way it should. I love the Facebook status, too. Adorable.
ReplyDeleteMy kids are always up for a random visit to a hotel. In fact, me too. I love having someone else make the bed for me. ;-)
