Prompt for today: Beautiful
Beautiful is such a loaded word. I can’t decide what approach to take with it. Should I just discuss what I think is beautiful? Something about finding the beauty in my life, maybe? Sadly, the first thing that really pops into my mind is our warped sense of commercial beauty. And how campaigns for real beauty like the ones Dove does are just fighting a loosing battle. Media’s depiction of beauty is too prevalent and too harsh to escape. Which is really a shame, because it isn’t real.
I applaud mothers who are raising daughters, and who are struggling to teach their daughters what self worth and real beauty look like. I encourage you to keep up the good fight, because I think that is the only way the battle can be won. Keep telling your daughters they are perfect, and keep showing them that YOU are perfect. They will learn their self talk from your self talk. You must think you are beautiful if you want your daughters to think they are beautiful.
Also, I want you to know I’m gonna do my best to raise boys that know what real beauty is. Both in themselves and and the women around them. And if perchance your daughters’ paths cross my sons’ paths, at least they’ll have that.
